Looking back on 2018 we are so grateful for the hard work of our employees and the amazing opportunities we had. Here is a look back at some of the biggest highlights of the year!

JANUARY

Expanding our Interior Design Services

ms expanded its Interior Design services early in 2018. Our professional team of designers focus on communicating your brand and story through your space. The ms design process leads to the creation of meaningful environments for our clients.

FEBRUARY

Celebrating Engineers Week

Each year, ms celebrates our engineering staff during Engineers Week in February. Engineers Week celebrates and spreads awareness about engineering and the difference engineers are making in their communities around the world!

MARCH

ALDI Receives Sustainable Design Certification
ALDI’s urban streetscape location in Alexandria, Virginia received a Three Green Globes® rating in March 2018. The 17,132-square-foot store included a number of sustainable design feature to receive this certification, promoting sustainability for the brand and the local community.

APRIL

ms Ranks on ENR’s Top Design Firms List
The Engineering News-Record (ENR) annual Top Design Firms and the ENR Midwest Top Design Firms lists were released and ms was thrilled to be included once again! ms was listed at #265 on the ENR 2018 Top 500 Design Firms list. Additionally, ms was ranked #44 Top Midwest Design Firm and #9 for Design Services in Ohio.

MAY

Stambaugh Building – DoubleTree by Hilton + Bistro 1907
The 106-year-old Stambaugh Building, located in downtown Youngstown, Ohio, was nearly vacant and in need of a transformation. Design for this transformation first started back in 2015.  In May of 2018, the DoubleTree by Hilton and Bistro 1907 both opened in this renovated space! The DoubleTree by Hilton – Stambaugh Building was also the recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Eastern Ohio 2018 Merit Award.

 

Del-Co Water Company, Lawrence R. Schreiber Pump Station Project Completed
ms consultants provided the engineering design services for this $12 million project. 72,000 feet of 36 inch pipeline were installed to provide 16 million gallons of raw water per day for the Olentangy Water Treatment Plant. 

 

ms Inducted into the Conway Hall of Fame
Proud of our 55-year history, ms consultants continues to grow and develop, providing cutting-edge planning and design services for our clients and communities. This year, we were honored to be inducted into the Inaugural Central Ohio Family Business Hall of Fame by the Conway Center for Family Business.

JUNE

Making Projects a Reality with Funding Opportunities
ms worked with Ellewood Engineered Casting to study a railroad bridge replacement. ms helped to identify specific funding opportunities for the $500,000 bridge replacement which was critical to the continued production at the facility.

JULY

ms Indy Moves Downtown
Effective as of July, the ms Indy office relocated to a new home in downtown Indianapolis. This move gave our interior design team the opportunity to create a branded and employee-friendly space, incorporating the ms brand into the work environment while bettering the employee experience.

AUGUST

Pickaway Fairgrounds Improvement Design Continues
This year, ground broke for the Pickaway County Fairgrounds revamp. The project’s goal is to ensure the continued preservation of the county’s agricultural heritage, while providing for the fairgrounds’ future relevance and vitality.

 

Building a Successful Partnership with AEP
When facilities became outdated, AEP overhauled its service centers and maintenance garages to better serve its staff and customers. ms is proud to be a collaborating partner for AEP’s 32 project upgrade, providing full architecture and engineering services.

SEPTEMBER

I-95 Improvements Opening
After 60 years of drivers facing inconveniences on the most-used road in America, travelers are now enjoying a more streamlined trip along I-95 through a number of improvement projects.

OCTOBER

STEPtember Fitbit Challenge Concludes
At the start of each fall ms kick’s off our annual Fitbit Challenge. This year employees reached their goal of 35,000,000 steps and earned a donation of STEM resources to local schools.

 

Water Asset Management: Senate Bill 2
October 1 was the last day for Ohio public water systems to become compliant with Senate Bill 2 (S.B. 2), and ms was there to help. The bill requires all public water systems to develop and document an asset management program.

NOVEMBER

Overview of Green Building Certifications
One of our in-house sustainability experts, Eric Elizondo, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, broke down four of the major green building certifications in the US and provided some guidance and alternatives to certification. Many of the green building systems are similar in mission but vary widely in execution so Eric broke discusses the pros, cons, and best suited certification for your project.

DECEMBER

Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway Opens
The newly opened Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway ended the isolation for an under-served area. The new roadway was needed to connect people to jobs, alleviate congestion, enhance safety, and improve traffic movement around Portsmouth, Ohio.
