ms consultants worked with Ellwood Engineered Castings, an iron castings and forgings manufacturer in Hubbard, Ohio, to study a railroad bridge replacement. The $500,000 bridge replacement was critical to the continued production at the facility.
To further add value to Ellwood’s project, ms consultants also helped to identify specific funding opportunities for the bridge replacement. ms identified grant opportunities for the project, and then wrote and coordinated a request to the Ohio Rail Development Commission for an economic development grant to help offset costs for the bridge project.
The ms consultants Grants and Funding team worked diligently to help structure the funding package and kept in contact with ORDC staff over the course of several months.
REDUCING PROJECT COSTS
On May 23, 2018, the Ohio Rail Development Commission awarded Ellwood Engineering Castings a $75,000 state economic development grant for the railroad bridge replacement project.
Not only did ms consultants structural engineering team work with Ellwood to find an efficient and cost-effective conceptual bridge scheme, but then ms also assisted in additional cost savings of 15% with the economic development grant.

Because of the effective design and grant assistance, Ellwood is able to move forward in not only retaining their existing jobs and production levels in Hubbard, but they’ll also be making an additional multi-million dollar capital investment on-site and expanding job opportunities within the Mahoning Valley area.
