Tami in 100 Words or Less

I’ve been at ms for three years as a Permitting Specialist - I figure out what jurisdiction a project is in, call the jurisdictions to find out all the submittal requirements to obtain a permit, then submit the required documentation, and follow up until we have approval. My background is in interior design and project management.

The Speed Round

What was your first job?

An order taker at Hardee’s.

What is one item on your bucket list?

See the pyramids in Egypt. I had a trip planned in June 2020, but that didn’t happen. It is now scheduled for April 2021.

If you could live one day over again, which would you pick?

Spelunking in Belize. We were there on a scuba dive trip but extended the trip by three days to go inland. We stayed in a jungle lodge with no electricity. One of the days we went on a six-hour spelunking excursion. We started off inner tubing in a creek to the entrance of a cave, which was formed by the creek eroding away the rock inside the mountain. We then hiked uphill in the cave for six hours where we saw a room filled with crystals and Mayan pottery, had lunch next to a waterfall, and then climbed up the waterfall. By the end, I was exhausted and never so happy to actually see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Read a good book or watch a good movie?

Both. I read each night, and on Sunday mornings I like to curl up on the couch with a good book. Other times of the day, I’d prefer to watch a good movie.

Favorite restaurant?

Arch City Tavern in the Short North. The burger and truffle fries are delicious.

Listener or talker?

I can be either, it just depends on the situation.

Farthest you’ve traveled from home?

Truk Lagoon in Micronesia on a scuba diving trip. We dove on Japanese shipwrecks from WWII. The ships were surprisingly intact. All the artifacts where still there, including dinnerware, tanks, bicycles, ammunition, and sake bottles. The sea life was spectacular! We saw huge anemones, giant clams, and jellyfish on almost every dive, along with moray eels, squid, octopi, barracuda, and sharks.

If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, which color would you choose?

Purple. It has been my favorite color almost my whole life. My mom says I changed to pink when I was six, but that didn’t last long.

Salty or sweet?

Both together. Salted caramel is delicious.

Best concert you’ve been to?

Chris Cornell

Last thing you read?

Be, Awake, Create by Rebekah Younger

Favorite TV show?

Hawaii Five-0

Tell Us More

What sets ms apart from other engineering & architecture firms?

We have a permitting team, which helps our clients navigate the sometimes extremely complicated processes of obtaining zoning and building permits.

What would you go back and tell your 22 year old self?

Be more adventurous and take more risk. You never know where life will take you.

You’ve got one day in Columbus. What do you do?

My favorite Columbus activities are:

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

  • Scuba diving – I volunteer dive at the Columbus Zoo feeding the fish and cleaning in both Discovery Reef and the manatee tank.
  • Art – Taking classes at the Cultural Arts Center (jewelry, stained glass, encaustic wax painting, and lapidary).
