In January of 2023, ms consultants and the City of Columbus began planning the new transmission mains project for Columbus’ fourth water plant. This new plant will provide additional clean, safe drinking water to the growing Central Ohio population. The plant will be located on the western bank of the O’Shaughnessy Reservoir near the corner of Home and Dublin Roads and will strengthen the reliability and resiliency of Columbus’ water system.
ms consultants is working on the design of the transmission mains that will connect the new plant to the Columbus water distribution system near Blazer Parkway, with strategic connections to the existing system. These transmission mains will provide reliable and sustainable water supply to the growing population of the Central Ohio region. These mains will be approximately 10 to 11 miles in length, depending upon the alignment selected, and range in size from 42 to 60 inches in diameter.
Phase one of the design began in January 2023 and is focusing on evaluating potential alignments through the highly dense urban area of the City of Dublin. Phase two is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2024 and will focus on finalizing the design of the water mains. Phase three, beginning in 2026, will mark the start of construction. Initially, these mains will collectively convey 30 to 48 million gallons of water per day (MGD) but will ultimately convey 80 MGD.
