ms Q+A: Sandipan Aditya

Maggie Kearns Francis

December 10, 2018

I am an Architectural Technical Service Manager for the Building Systems group and have been with ms for 18 months. I work with a very talented team of architects everyday on a wide variety of projects. My passion is providing innovative solutions to challenging problems and the projects here give me the opportunity to push boundaries and be creative.

I moved to Columbus 16 years ago to pursue my Masters in Architecture at The Ohio State University, and currently live in Dublin with my wife and 7-year-old son.

What was your first job?
Model maker at an architect’s office

What is one item on your bucket list?
Going around the world on a single trip

Last concert you attended?
Roger Waters in 2017

If you could have a cup of coffee with anyone, who would it be?
The list is very long. Steve Jobs, Sheryl Sandberg, Barack Obama, Justin Trudeau, Warren Buffet, Christopher Nolan, Al Pacino… and many more. (Point to note: there are no architects on my top 20 list)

Cook in or eat out?
My wife is an amazing cook, so cook in.

Who is your favorite superhero? Or who is a superhero to you? Why?
My favorite superheroes are everyday people doing small acts of kindness for people around them, making a small change, putting a smile on someone’s face. I do not believe in “a superhero” changing the world, I am inspired by small gestures making big impacts.

What household chore do you hate the most?

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A pilot

If there was a holiday in your honor what would it celebrate?
Tolerance and religious freedom

Listener or talker?
Depends on who you ask

If you could live one day over again, which would you pick?
The day my son was born

What sets ms apart from other engineering & architecture firms?
Our people. I love working with the team I interact with every day. I feel like I am working with friends and it creates a sense of commitment that goes above and beyond my professional obligations.

What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at ms?
How much the company’s leadership cares about the people who work here; how much they are willing to listen and not just tell us what to do.

If you weren’t an architect, what would you be doing?
Project Management

What would you go back and tell your 22 year old self?
Work harder and make more friends.

You’ve got one day in Columbus. What do you do?
Hang out at The Ohio State University campus.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Spend time with family and friends, watch a movie, and play badminton.
