NATHAN IN 100 WORDS OR LESS

I am a Project Manager and Technical Lead within our building systems team. Most of my experience is on the technical side, which allows me to understand how ms can be a valuable partner for our clients.

I have been with ms for over seven years, during which I received my master’s degree in architecture from The Ohio State University. Shortly after getting married in 2018, I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, with my wife and two energetic dogs.

THE SPEED ROUND

What was your first job?

I started mowing lawns with my brother around sixth grade. We had anywhere from two to six customers that kept us busy.

Visit Greece

Best concert you’ve been to?

Dave Matthews Band at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington

Favorite movie?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Farthest you’ve traveled from home?

Rotterdam, Netherlands as part of my mater’s program. Our studio partnered with OMA and we presented final projects to some of their leadership in their office.

Sweet or salty?

Salty

If you could live one day over again, which would you pick?

Our wedding day. Not only was it a special day, but it was one of the only times our family and close friends have been gathered together.

Listener or talker?

I am more of a listener. I like to digest information to better understand other perspectives and ideas.

Last book you read?

I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. It is a more obtainable financial guide than some of the other extreme opinions.

Favorite ice cream flavor?

Brambleberry Crisp by Jeni’s

If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would it be?

Elon Musk

Cook in or eat out?

I like to cook, especially since significantly changing our diet in the past year.

What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned while working at ms?

How valuable people and relationships are, both internally for successful teams and externally to have a strong network of resources.

What sets ms apart from other engineering & architecture firms?

Having a full team of architects and engineers in-house allows for greater communication and a better final product.

What project are you most proud to have been a part of, and why?

We were chosen to develop a new exterior concept for a national retail client in 2017 as part of a competition. By leading a team of designers we were able to produce four thoughtful concepts in a very short time period. It displayed our ability to think quickly and thoroughly.

You’ve got one day in Raleigh. What do you do?

Visit the North Carolina Museum of Art, hike at one of the many local trails, then relax with dinner and drinks at Second Empire in downtown Raleigh.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Spending time with my wife. Whether it’s working out, hiking with the dogs, or just being lazy, we have fun together. Since we are still new to the area, we love exploring new places and trying new restaurants.
