Williamson Elementary School in northeastern Ohio is a 48,000-square-foot facility for more than 350 students in grades K-4, on an urban site with limited access. ms consultants provided complete architectural, engineering (mechanical, electrical and site civil) and construction administration services. Funding for this project was supplied through the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission, now part of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), with matching funds from the local school district.

Notable features include:

  • Compact two-story masonry building is arranged on the site to provide the maximum green space, playground areas, and parking in a limited urban area.
  • The first floor is designed to separate academic teaching spaces from the non-academic teaching spaces, with easy access to the non-academic areas from building entrances and parking areas for after hours community use and controlled access.
  • 18 classrooms are stacked on two floors, meeting curriculum requirements and including special education and ESL (English as a Second Language).
  • Teacher-preparation areas and facilities located throughout the building assist with supervision of students on both floors.
  • Dedicated art and music rooms were considered essential to the school administrators.
  • A two-story media center reading room offers direct access to a computer lab, community conference room, technology control center and storage and work rooms.
