The Marshall Street Bridge was a historic half-thru steel truss bridge spanning the Mahoning River and a set of railroad tracks in Youngstown, Ohio. The City of Youngstown retained ms consultants to complete a preliminary study for replacement of the structure.
The existing structure was studied to determine the feasibility of various alternatives including cost comparisons. Study services included an in-depth inspection, subsurface investigations, and all necessary environmental impact statements and assessments.
ms submitted a TS&L for a three-span continuous steel girder and steel beam structure to replace the truss bridge. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved a programmatic Section 4(f) and Modification of Agreement to replace the bridge, with stipulations that pieces of the existing structure were offered to those interested in historic reuse.
Once the recommendation had been accepted and approved, work on the final design began immediately.
ms completed plans for a three-span continuous steel girder and steel beam structure to replace the truss bridge. The total bridge length is 326 feet while the project limit is 527 feet over the Mahoning River and CSX Railroad.
Additional services included survey, traffic control and traffic maintenance.
