CANFIELD, Ohio – More than 350 middle- and high-school students from across the Mahoning Valley will take part in the VEX Robotics Competition Saturday at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.

The tournament will feature more than 50 teams, who will build robots to complete tasks including stacking caps on posts, flipping caps over, stacking balls, throwing balls to toggle flags, driving and parking.

“It’s eye-opening to see the robots these students design, build and program each season to compete in the game-based engineering challenge,” said Walter Baber, MCCTC engineering teacher, in a release. “The VEX Robotics Competition provides kids with an engaging hands-on learning experience that instills a passion for STEM, and teaches them how to become critical problem solvers, which will serve them well into their future.”

Sponsoring the contest are Altronics, Vallourec, Laborers Local 125, MS Consultants, Profile Energy, Tarasuck Industries, the Spangler, Wilson and Kepko families, and Byler, Wolfe, Lutsch & Kampfer CPAs.

The VEX Robotics Competition is managed by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. Some 1,500 contests are held in 45 countries and include more than 20,000 teams comprised of students from elementary school to college.
