The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments has announced the launch of the Mahoning River Corridor Revitalization plan.
According to the release, the plan will bring collective economic opportunities to the area by connecting communities, protecting wild spaces and preserving the Mahoning River Valley's legacy.
The plan is being funded by ODNR grants and includes a hydraulic analysis that will analyze the removal of dams and how it would affect water levels. The analysis will be used to determine which dams will be removed without affecting industry and residents in the area.
The public can keep up with the project and interact with project leaders online due to the coronavirus pandemic at MyMahoningRiver.com and by following them on social media.
“Eastgate is excited to launch another project that will improve the quality of life for residents in Northeast Ohio,” Jim Kinnick, Eastgate Executive Director says, “The Mahoning River is a river of opportunity that flows through the Valley—a corridor in which we can realize economic prosperity through recreation, wildlife, water, business, and industry.”
MS Consultants, a firm founded in the Mahoning Valley will lead the project.
Final plans for the Mahoning River will include a broader vision for the communities connected by the river and implementation plans for the community.
