Six firms have expressed an interest in designing an outdoor entertainment facility next to the Covelli Centre downtown.

Last month, Youngstown Mayor John McNally put out a “request for qualifications” from architects interested in designing the facility, as well as landscaped green space under the Market Street bridge. The city-owned land is where the former Wean United building once stood.

Firms that submitted proposals include:

  • MS Consultants, Inc. of Youngstown, which submitted a letter of interest as part of a three-firm conglomerate with firms out of Columbus and New York City.
  • Strollo Architects of Youngstown
  • Olsavsky Jaminet Architects of Youngstown
  • Balog Steines Hendricks & Manchester Architects Inc. of Youngstown
  • Tetra Tech Inc. of Pasadena. It has an office in Canfield.
  • Westlake Reed Leskosky of Cleveland

Now, a seven-member committee that includes city officials, Mill Creek MetroParks Executive Director Aaron Young and Covelli Centre manager Eric Ryan, will review the proposals and make recommendations to the city’s Board of Control.

McNally previously said no general fund money would be used to build the outdoor entertainment facility or the park. He said the city will seek grants and private donations.
