2014 Step Up for Diabetes

Our annual pedometer challenge is taking a step up this year (no pun intended) with a little competition. The prize? A $10,000 donation to regional diabetes associations!

The 2014 Step Up for Diabetes will be held June 16 – August 10 with a company-wide goal of 58,000,000 steps. Yes, 58 MILLION! When the goal is met, ms consultants will distribute a $10,000 donation among regional diabetes organizations, local to each office.

Why Donate to Diabetes Associations?

Did you know nearly 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes? There are two types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes is a non-preventable form where the body lacks insulin production; in type 2 diabetes, the more common form, the body either decreases insulin production or insulin becomes less effective. Type 2 can be prevented with a healthy diet and exercise. Regardless of type, a healthy lifestyle is critical to those who have diabetes.

And, with over 79 million people in the U.S. being pre-diabetic, it is important to take action now. This isn’t just for those at risk. The CDC recommends 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity at least 5 days a week to maintain overall good health. What a better way to get that activity than with a pedometer challenge.
