2014 Step up For Diabetes Success!

August 26, 2014

The ms company-wide pedometer contest wrapped up on August 10 with a final step count greater than the distance of the Earth's equator! Not only did this improve the wellness of ms employees, but local diabetes organizations also benefited from a $10,000 donation.

Benefiting the Local Community

ms employees met their 58 million step goal during week seven of the contest, which led to a $10,000 donation to be distributed among regional diabetes associations local to each office location. The final step count was 75,872,840 steps, equal to over 35,924 miles!

The winners of the contest were announced during a wellness workshop, which was held live at the Columbus office and streamed via webinar to our other locations. ms was fortunate enough to have the Central Ohio Diabetes Association attend as well. Jeanne Grothaus (Executive Director) and Rick Harrison (Asst. Director) spoke to ms employees about their organization and the work they do every day. This donation will help out with Camp Hamwi and other educational programs. Visit the Central Ohio Diabetes Association website for more information.

Other donation recipients included regional American Diabetes Associations and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundations.

Beyond ms

The benefits of the contest didn’t just benefit ms employees but also extended beyond the office! Mike Borgel, Structural Engineer in our Harrisburg office, was happy to see his daughter’s interest in the contest as well. Mya was so excited to see her parents’ daily step progress, she wanted to join in on the fun. Beginning with the fourth week of the contest, Mike purchased Mya her very own pedometer so she could track her steps. She totaled over 350,000 steps! Way to go, Mya!

And the winners are…

Local diabetes associations were not the only winners during the pedometer contest. All ms employees did an amazing job, but we want to point out some of our contest winners as well. Winners received health and wellness items, such as water bottles, resistance bands, and even Fitbits!
