James Bednar has joined ms consultants as the new Global Transportation Sales and Business Unit Leader. He has more than 34 years of industry experience and is a nationally recognized expert in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related regulations.

Jim has worked on projects nationwide, and his career includes prior positions as the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) national Chief of Project Development (currently the Office of Project Development and Environmental Review), and Chief of Operations for Southern California.

While in California, he led the rebuilding efforts after the Northridge earthquake in January 1994. The earthquake gained worldwide attention because of damage to the vast freeway network in the Los Angeles region, the most notable damage being to Interstate 10 (the Santa Monica Freeway), known as the busiest freeway in the United States.

Jim spent the last 12 years as CH2M HILL’s national Director of Transportation Project Development, where he was responsible for NEPA, environmental analysis, public involvement, feasibility studies and sustainable design solutions.

Some of the noteworthy projects for which he provided strategic direction while there include the 11th Street Bridges over the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C.; the SR 520 floating bridge in Seattle, WA; Project NEON in Las Vegas, NV; SR 710 in Los Angeles, and the Sea to Sky Highway in Vancouver, British Columbia.

For ms consultants, Jim is based in the Columbus office and has become immediately involved with the Eastern Corridor Project in Cincinnati, OH, and assisting with project management training for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
