“It sounds cheesy, but I really don’t feel I chose to be an architect; it’s always been a passion inside me,” says Mr. Elizondo. From building an active solar water heating panel for a 7th grade science project to writing his Masters of Architecture thesis entitled Meeting at Whole World: Designing to Sustain Humanity on a Symbiotic Planet, Mr. Elizondo has had a lifelong passion for designing buildings that address the principles of sustainability.

The success of the USGBC’s LEED program during the last decade and the growing sustainability trend validated his early beliefs and has let Mr. Elizondo to fulfill his interest of making buildings beautiful, functional, inspiring and embedded with sustainability. Of particular importance in the industry is reducing the energy demand that buildings have on the Earth’s natural resources and fossil fuels. “The best way to save energy is not to use it,” says Mr. Elizondo. “A good goal would be 50 percent of each person’s energy needs to be supplied from renewable sources.” Fortunately, he believes we are at the infancy of a plan to change how our culture uses energy. Change is happening through cultural awareness, political lobbying, passionate professionals, changing laws, corporate competition and the scientific community’s continual focus on holistic connections among the sciences. “I am excited to help ms consultants develop strategies to assist our clients in solving their building energy issues.”

Mr. Elizondo’s project management and design skills have been a key factor in LEED project success for numerous ms consultants’ clients. His combined technical expertise and life experiences have helped him achieve shared desired project results. A dedicated and inspired individual, Mr. Elizondo’s guiding principle and belief that being a good steward to the Earth is a holy act is derived from his personal faith. Having faced intense personal challenges in his life, including the loss of his son and diagnosis of his daughter’s leukemia, has given him a perspective when dealing with crises, both personal and professional. The end result: he is has a true grasp on patience, understanding and empathy.
